What a consultation fee covers

The fee buys the appointment: the doctor's time, an examination, and a diagnosis, prescription or referral. In Hong Kong's private system a general practitioner's quoted fee often includes a few days of dispensed medication. A specialist's usually does not.

What it does not cover

Blood tests, imaging, scopes and procedures are billed separately, as is anything done at a later appointment. So is a follow-up, which many clinics price differently from a first visit. Read the figure as the cost of getting through the door, not the cost of being treated.

Why some clinics show a range

Where a clinic lists two figures, both appear here. Clinics quote a range when the fee depends on how long the consultation runs or how complex it turns out to be. Neither number is an average — they are the two ends the clinic published itself.

These are private fees

Every figure on this page comes from a private clinic. Hospital Authority clinics charge on their own published government scale, which is not reflected here.
