Every doctor legally allowed to practise medicine and surgery in Hong Kong is on a public register kept by the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK), and anyone can search it for free. Here is how that register works and how to use it.
Every doctor legally allowed to practise medicine and surgery in Hong Kong must appear on the Medical Council of Hong Kong's General Register. You can search it yourself, free of charge, on the Council's official website (mchk.org.hk) by registration number, English name, or Chinese name.
The General Register lists everyone qualified to practise medicine and surgery in Hong Kong under the Medical Registration Ordinance (Cap. 161). The Specialist Register is a separate, additional list — a doctor's name appears on it only if the Medical Council has recognised their qualification in a specific specialty, such as cardiology or paediatrics. A doctor can be fully registered without being a specialist in any field; specialist registration is an extra credential on top of general registration.
These are the four parts of the General Register under the Medical Registration Ordinance. Full Registration (Part I) is for doctors who have completed all local training requirements and can practise independently without restriction, and is further split into a Resident List and a Non-resident List. Provisional Registration (Part II) is for doctors completing their internship. Limited Registration (Part III) permits practice only in a specified role, institution, or period. Special Registration (Part V) is a separate route for non-locally-trained specialists. Only Full Registration allows unrestricted private practice.

We compile the doctors and clinics listed on this site from public sources, but the Medical Council's own register is the only authoritative, current source of registration status. If anything here appears inconsistent with the Council's register, the Council's register is correct.
Search by registration number if you have it — it is the most exact match. If searching by name, try both the English spelling and the Chinese characters, since transliteration can vary. Registration status can also change over time (for example, on retirement or suspension), so absence from the current register does not necessarily mean a name was never registered — for a definitive answer, contact the Medical Council of Hong Kong directly.
